Professor Manuel Lucena at RNE (Part II)

This is the second part of my conversation with Manuel Lucena Giraldo [1], author of “82 objetos que cuentan un país,” a history of Spain.  Professor Lucena speaks of the Dama de Elche, a sculpture that helped to define the beauty of Spanish women for some time.  He also finds in the “quevedos”, the round eye-glasses Golden Age poet and reactionary Francisco de Quevedo wore, an emblem of the Baroque.   Then, there is the Seat 600, the car that carried Spaniards into the middle class.  Manuel Lucena describes how these iconic objects have maintained a vital dialogue with the Spanish people at different times in the country’s history, and still do.
