CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP. From noon to 2 pm at IE University, Campus de Santa Cruz La Real (Class 144)

The award winning Welsh author, songwriter and “Hay Festival International Fellow”, Fflur Dafydd, offers a hands-on creative writing workshop which explores various ways to conceive characters, situations and scenes.  Whether in English or in her native language, Dafydd has published six works of fiction, and all of them have received prestigious awards.

FORBIDDEN TO BORE! From 12.30 pm–2 pm at IE University, Campus de Santa Cruz La Real (Sala Capitular)

We enter the factory of great stories. What defines literary success nowadays? Can it be foreseen? Is it possible to “make a best-seller”? In a society overwhelmed with information, there are writers who have deserved a lot of attention:  Julia Navarro, Javier Sierra, Lorenzo Silva and Juan Gómez-Jurado speak with Jesús García Calero and Inés Martín Rodrigo about the fabulous secrets that make this profession unique.

CHINA: CULTURE, ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN.  From 5 pm to 9.30 pm at IE University, Campus de Santa Cruz La Real (Sala Refectorio)

Cultural Bridges. At 5 pm Zhang Yu, president of the multidisciplinary CAEG Foundation, and Miguel Ángel Cortés, trustee of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and former Secretary of State of culture of Spain, bring the richness of their insight in this debate about the culture, art and the emergence of China in the international art market. Chaired by Juan Cambiaso, International trustee of the Prado Museum.

Lu Wenyu and Jose María de Churtichaga in conversation with Noelia Sastre. At 6 pm Lu Wenyu, architect and co-founder along with Wang Shu of Amateur Architecture studio, and Jose María de Curtichaga, architect and vice-dean of IE School of Architecture & Design talk with Noelia Sastre, Life style and Culture writer of GRAZIA magazine. The main topic: architectural challenges and design in this globalization era.

Architecture China 2013 – The 100 Contemporary Projects. At 7 pm Fang Zhenning, architect, international artist and curator of the Chinese Pavillion in the Venetian Architecture Biennale of 2012 Shao Weiping, architect, director of BIAD and president of CHINAASC speak about this exhibition presented in Segovia and Chinese contemporary architecture with Javier Quintana, architect and dean of IE School of Architecture & Design – IE University.

Bringing the past and the future of the new architecture in China together. At 8.30 pm Wang Shu, Chinese architect awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize 2012 speaks with Martha Thorne, Executive Director of the Pritzker Prize and Vice-dean of Foreign Affairs of the IE School of Architecture and Design.

MY WORDS, OTHERS’ WORDS. At 11am at Jardin del Romeral de San Marcos

IE’s Communication Director José Félix Valdivieso and Ann Bateson will read their own texts as well as the poems of Gil de Viedma and others, while Fflur Dafydd, Sangetta Datta and Marifé Santiago read their own poems. Guided by Claudia Schaefer.
