Xan Brooks selects his highlights from the programme of the 69th Venice film festival, which has just kicked off with a screening of The Reluctant Fundamentalist, a 9/11 drama featuring the long-awaited pairing of Riz Ahmed and Kate Hudson. Other treats in store include Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, about a charismatic intellectual who invents a new belief system
