Here’s what happens when you win an Emmy Award for best actress, as Claire Danes did on Sunday night. You give dozens of backstage interviews, answering the same questions again and again. Then your limo driver takes you to lavish parties, where you say “thank you” again and again and take photos with well-wishers. But all you really want to do is see your mom and dad, who watched your acceptance speech from a hotel suite miles away.

When Ms. Danes, seven-pound Emmy in hand, finally found her mother, standing by the bar at the 20th Century Fox party here two hours after the awards telecast wrapped, they hugged for a full minute. “I loved your speech,” Carla Danes told her daughter, especially the one line the Internet loved, “Mandy Patinkin, holla,” a shout-out to one of Ms. Danes’s co-stars.

Ms. Danes won one of the four Emmys bestowed on Sunday on “Homeland,” the paranoia-tinged thriller about terrorism that had its premiere on Showtime last fall. The series took the prize for best drama, ending a four-year winning streak by AMC’s “Mad Men” and making it the talk of this town after the “64th Primetime Emmy Awards” telecast. “We swept it, swept it!” said a shocked Morena Baccarin, who plays a military wife on the series, as she hugged friends after the awards show.
