An Encore at the Met

It is not exactly newsworthy that that world renowned Peruvian opera singer, Juan Diego Florez, wowed his audience earlier this week at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House.  This is, after all, The Met. 

What, however, did make headlines was the fact that he did it twice.  For the first time in 14 years, the last being Pavarotti’s performance of the third act tenor aria in "Tosca", Juan Diego Florez sang this impressive aria "Ah Mes Amis" from Donzetti’s La Fille Du Regiment(called a Mount Everest for tenors because of it’s NINE high C’s in a row) twice. 

This has brought up a discussion about the Met’s long ban on encores.  To hear Florez sing this lovely aria (twice!), please watch the video below.
